Fin de la Inocencia (by Jorge Calvo)

This chilean book makes you go through different places of Santiago, you can distinguish each street that the author has described. It is divided into stories and each one talks about different points of view, to say it somehow. What I mean is that each story tells us about somebody different, but he/she is related to somebody else.
The main character is not clear, because in each story there is a new main character, the themes shown on the book, are about: cheating on somebody, or what one person lived. In some cases, a wife was cheating on his husband with the gardener, in others a boyfriend was cheating on his girlfriend one month before the wedding, and other a woman was raped by the main character’s father in times of dictatorship.
The relationship between characters changes in each story, because, as I explained before, there are diferent stories. The thing that each of the stories have in common is that, or the characters were friends (or not) that had sex, or they were people living (or talking about) the dictatorship period.
Each story tells something about the dictatorship and what kind of problems happened in that period. At the book, the dictatorship is seen as a bad moment, but it shows that, even though it was a negative period for a big group of people, it was considered positive for others, the ones that had money.
The thing is that the author wants to show us that there are too many things that makes us losing our innocence. Of course, we are not mature completely, there are always topics that we don´t know about, and discovering them, makes us to lose our inocence.
This is a really weird book. It makes you think about what you have lived, and how innocent you are...

  1. Hello Damy...

Well, first of all, let me tell you that I completely agree with you when you say that it is a very weird book (I haven't read it, it seems like that, though).

Secondly, yes! of course while we are living, we are losing our innocence at the same time D:. But, I think that in order to be in a world like this, it's neccesary to lose our innocence, because whether we don't, we will be being more than innocent, we would be being naive people ...

Best regards dear :D !! ... see you in classes...

  3. Well I thinks pretty much the same than Javiera. The back flash style makes the book an interesting way to know why we are like this. We, like daughters, are influence by our parents and what the lived too.
I seems like an excelent book.

    Bye!
